Wild Bantams Win Again

Meriden — The Hanover Bantam White youth hockey team kept up its winning ways in Granite State League play on Sunday, blanking the Manchester Flames, 6-0, at Kimball Union Academy to improved to 7-2-1 in league play.

The Wild fired 17 shots on goal in the opening period and left with two goals from Nathan St. Pierre and another from Curtis Rice. Lucie Turcotte and St. Pierre made it 5-0 after two periods, and Pratt Stetson added a final strike in the third. Stetson set up a pair of goals, with Andrew Duany and Jake Kriplin adding solo assists. Danny Drebber earned a 15-save shutout.

Hanover’s good fortune didn’t extend to a nonleague game with Essex at Woodstock’s Union Arena on Saturday, with the Sting scoring five times in the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit in a 6-3 victory. St. Pierre scored twice and Rice tallied one for the Wild.

Wasps Blank Wild

Woodstock — The Woodstock Youth Hockey Peewees bounced back from a league loss on Saturday to Northshire with a 2-0 shutout of Hanover Tier III on Sunday at Union Arena.

Woodstock pounded more than 50 shots the Wild’s way but could only sneak two past the visitors. Charlie Macko got the game-winner for the Wasps on a Henry Trimpi pass, and Michael LaCroix’s blue-line one-timer clinched the victory.

Northshire dominated Saturday’s third meeting of the year with Woodstock in an 8-2 victory. The Wasps started quickly with an unassisted Trimpi strike, but only a Trimpi-fed Macko conversion dented the Northshire net the rest of the way.

Woodstock Girls Win

Rutland — Faye Stevens struck twice early to power the Woodstock U13 girls to a 2-0 win over Rutland U12 at Giorgetti Park on Saturday.

Skylar Haley provided an assist on Stevens’ early assault to get the Wasps going. The rest of the contest belonged to the defense, with Maggie Mello and Lila Beckwith both playing strong games to earn the shutout.

Stevens kept up her scoring surge with a hat trick on Sunday in a 5-1 win over Northshire U14 at Union Arena. Haley and Lily Gubbins each added a goal and assist.

The Wasps’ weekend included league wins over Middlebury on Saturday and Essex on Sunday. Woodstock topped the former by a 4-1 count despite having just three subs on the bench. The Wasps overwhelmed Essex behind goals from seven different players, including Owen Coates, Field Willis, Riley Shepherd and Aiden Yates.
