Springfield, Vt. — Volunteers with an interest or experience in caregiver and elder issues are needed to serve on the advisory council of a Vermont nonprofit that provides social services for senior citizens.

Senior Solutions serves 47 communities in Windsor and Windham counties, offering information and assistance such as Meals on Wheels, health insurance, mental health counseling, transportation, exercise programs, home-based social services and caregiver support.

“We’re hoping to welcome more volunteers from the Upper Valley, specifically Hartford, Norwich, Pomfret, Barnard, Plymouth, Weathersfield and Woodstock,” Executive Director Carol Stamatakis said in a news release from the nonprofit.

A combination of business, educational and social matters, the monthly council meetings often feature educational speakers and updates on legislative issues and agency services, the release said.

Members are encouraged to share information so Senior Solutions staff can learn more about lder issues and respond effectively.

Serving on the council is “a great way to be in touch with all of the issues related to seniors in our area, and it’s a great networking opportunity that can result in improving services for the elderly,” said Richard Davis, a retired nurse from Guilford, Vt.

“If you want to make a difference for seniors, this is it.”
