Orford — In Tuesday’s boys soccer clash between Stratton Mountain and Rivendell Academy, the Raptors’ Lucas DeSouza showed that patience can equal production.

Demonstrating a little well-timed restraint, DeSouza, a senior, scored three goals in the second half as the Raptors prevailed, 5-0.

Rivendell’s top returning scorer, DeSouza scored four goals in the Raptors’ first three games but had been held to only a pair of assists during Rivendell’s next five.

He was more controlled and selective against Stratton Mountain, completing his hat trick with goals in the 55th, 57th and 69th minutes.

“I talked to him after the game and said, ‘Do you know what the difference was?’ ” Rivendell coach Bob Thatcher said. “He said, ‘I was putting it in the back of the net.’ I said, ‘Yes, but do you know why?’ The difference was he was more patient. He’s very quick, and sometimes he rushes. He’s so amped up to score that he overtouches the ball sometimes, and it gets taken away. That didn’t happen in the second half today.”

The game was scoreless until an own goal a minute before halftime, Chris Gendron directing a shot off the hip of a Stratton Mountain defender.
