Newport No. 3 player Brandon Whalen became the third Tiger to earn medalist honors this season as he tied teammate Cameron Gebo for the top spot with a 4-over-par 39 on Ridgewood’s front nine. Kyle Fish added a 43 and Gabe Edwards had 45 for Newport. Seniors Darren O’Conner (54) and Bryce Turner (55) rounded out the Tigers’ lineup.
“It’s very nice to have three golfers who push each other,” Newport coach George Campbell said. “We’re playing very good golf right now when we need to be playing very good golf.”
The Tigers (18-0) now shift attention to the defense of their New Hampshire Division IV state championship from last season after taking down Moultonborough, which entered Friday with a 20-1 record. The state championship is Thursday and will be preceded by an alternate-scoring 18-hole tuneup event at Waukewan Golf Club on Monday.
“It’s a good opportunity to go up there and learn there and learn the course, read the greens, file things away in the memory bank and get us ready to play for a championship on Thursday,” Campbell said.

East Montpelier, Vt.
Down 14-6 at halftime, Windsor survived turnovers and came back to beat the Raiders with a fourth-quarter touchdown run by Jake Tucker from 10 yards out. The go-ahead score broke a 21-21 deadlock and was Tucker’s second touchdown of the night.
The Jacks’ Hunter Patenaude and Trevor Worrall each ran for touchdowns. Balch praised the defensive unit as a whole for keeping U-32 in check despite the Raiders having a field-position advantage for much of the game. Ben Meagher and Caleb Harrington spearheaded the Windsor defensive effort.
The Yellowjackets host Mill River for homecoming on Saturday.
Langdon, n.h.
Quarterback Dylan McNamara connected on a 45-yard touchdown pass to John Hogan to get Newport going, after which the running backs took control. In additions to the two-TD nights from the two Thibaults, Dominic Russell contributed his first scoring run of the season and Tyler Sharron returned a fumble for points.
Sharron also booted four extra points, and McNamara hit Cam Ackerson with a conversion pass to complete the Tigers’ scoring. All of NHIAA Division III takes next weekend off; Newport returns to action at Mascoma on Nov. 8.
Springfield, Vt.
Quarterback Noah Johnson, filling in for the injured Dametres Perry, hit Pelletier for TD passes of 70 and 80 yards and ran in a 1-yard score of his own. Jake Stimson also produced a scoring run for the Olympians, whose remaining points came on three Pelletier point-after kicks and a 2-point reception on a Johnson pass.
Oxbow visits North Country for a nonconference contest on Friday.
North Clarendon, Vt.
Fullback Ezra Astbury led the Woodstock ground attack with 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns, scoring from 1 and 46 yards. Dan Robinson had touchdown runs of 47, 60 and 66 yards and finished with 172 yards rushing. Bill Wood had 105 rushing yards, including scoring runs from 30 and 56 yards.
Woodstock visits Poultney-MSJ on Saturday.
West Canaan
Alex Schwarz backed up the attack with a goal and an assist. Stenger added two helpers, and McCullough, James Disbrow and Connor Morley added one apiece. Killian Down closed the scoring from the penalty spot, and goalkeepers Hunter Whyte and Elizabeth Pelton combined on a five-save clean sheet.
The Royals host Winnisquam on Friday. Newport is home today to take on Mascenic.
Manchester
Locked in a 2-2 draw, Gariepy slipped the Pioneers’ defense on a solo run and fired a left-footed drive that Trinity goalkeeper Michael Monenbault (eight saves) parried away. The rebound went to Sandmann, who one-touched the rebound home to put Lebanon ahead to stay with 9:08 to go. Julian Stott’s 77th-minute penalty kick provided the insurance.
The Raiders opened the scoring 30 seconds before halftime as Patrick Mason headed home a Graham Chickering flick pass following a Noah Didehbani throw. Sandmann finished a Logan Falzarano pass in the 48th minute to double the lead, but the Pioneers (2-7-1) rebounded through Kevin McHugh and Ethan Frenette.
The Raiders’ Erik Spaulding turned aside four shots in his first career varsity start in goal. Lebanon entertains John Stark on Tuesday, looking to avenge its only loss of the season.
Nashua, n.h.
Casey Starr started the action, scoring on an assist from Adam Pikelny. After an own goal off a Bishop Guertin defender’s foot, Marcus Helble’s goal on a feed from Henry Kahl lifted the Marauders to a 3-0 lead.
Jake Acker added a goal before halftime and Griffin Johnson added his first career varsity goal to close the book. Sam Strohbehn and Alvaro Cooper each had assists. Keeper Patrick Logan made three saves for the shutout.
The Marauders host Pinkerton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
South Royalton
Skeet-Browning scored the only goal of the first half on a penalty kick. The freshman striker added another goal after the break. Knoerlein added two goals to put Sharon in front for good. Trabyn Fisk and Willy Barnes each had assists.
Josh Scoskie scored for SoRo to bring the Royals within one at 2-1 early in the second half. The Royals host Mid Vermont Christian on Monday.
Keeper Thatcher Morrison had three saves for the Phoenix, who play at Twinfield on Monday.
Rochester, Vt.
Nick Rowe added a goal and an assist. Ambrose Wigglesworth also scored. Keeper Isaac Hodgdon had seven saves for Whitchester, which visits Sharon on Wednesday.
“The boys played with intensity and were aggressive tonight. I was very pleased,” Mountaineers coach Corey Stearns said.
Bennington, Vt.
Kyle Prior scored with an assist to Ben Rouillard to put Hartford up 1-0 at halftime. Nick Jones scored early in the second half to put the visitors in front by two and spur a renewed sense of urgency by the Patriots. The Canes’ defense held and Rouillard added a final insurance goal late to put the game on ice.
Keeper Jordy Allard had four saves for Hartford. Prior and Callum Brittain added assists. The Canes host Brattleboro on Monday.
Meriden
Jon Grigull and Thomas Pierce scored minutes apart to settle the contest in Kimball Union’s favor. Grigull capitalized on a loose ball at the edge of the penalty area, while Pierce one-timed a Kuda Muhlauri pass to double KUA’s lead. Sophomore backs Dominic DeCruz and Tucker Williams marshalled the defense in front of goalkeeper Nkosi Dube, who earned the shutout.
Ludlow, Vt.
Daniel Roberts scored the lone goal for Mid Vermont, while Brandan Palmer made four saves, including one on a penalty kick.
The Eagles visit South Royalton on Tuesday.
Hanover
Bryn Kable, Carly Craft, Mindy Wu and Riley Craft produced the goals, with Amelia Lubrano, Cate Wagner, JJ Taube and Maeve Goodrich earning assists. Hanover outshot the visitors, 22-0, leaving goalkeeper Mahler Meyerrose without the need to make a save for the clean sheet.
Hanover goes to Kearsarge on Tuesday.
Fairfax, Vt.
Madison Fornwalt set up the goal with a long through ball to Barton. The sophomore attacker then beat a defender and rocketed home the go-ahead goal into the corner of the net.
Coach Charlie Barton praised the play of Lindsey Carbee in the midfield and goalie Kaysea Neil (five saves). Oxbow visits Hazen on Wednesday.
South Royalton
Eleanor Frost added a goal and an assist for Sharon. Maya Johnstone and Lily Crowley each had assists. The Phoenix held a 45-3 advantage in shots but were kept largely in check by the Royals’ defense.
Sharon coach Blake Fabrikant praised Crowley’s play on the defensive end. Keeper Abby Levy had one save for Sharon, which plays host to Whitchester on Tuesday.
Manchester, Vt.
“They’re a loaded team and favorites to win the championship (in D-I). We actually played very well. It took us a bit to adjust to their pace. We got the hang of it and played well in the second half,” Hartford coach Jeff Acker said. “It’s a good learning experience and something to build on.”
Keeper Morgan White had what Acker called her best game ever and finished with 17 saves. The Canes host Brattleboro under the lights at 6:30 on the football field for breast cancer awareness night on Wednesday.
Lebanon
Lebanon visits John Stark on Monday.

Meredith Melendy, Hannah Bunten, Leah Mayes, Maddie Hastings, Emma Thibodeau and Sydney Brochu all banged the tin in the opening half for the big lead, to which defender Kaitlyn Chamley added an unassisted goal after halftime. Bunten, Mayes, Hastings, Corinne Kennedy and Emerson Sleeper contributed assists, and goaltender Hope Brown included a diving stick save among the two she recorded for the shutout.
Undefeated in four games, Lebanon goes to Kennett on Tuesday.
Claremont
Rebecca Moody, Jennie Morey, Scotlyn Daignault and Sophie Foote provided the offense for Stevens (8-1), winners of four straight. Tess Whitney earned the shutout in goal without having to make a save. Morey and Elyse Scott finished with assists.
The Cardinals continue a three-game homestand against Hopkinton on Monday.
White River Junction
Havailah Arnold started the action with her first goal of the season, assisted by Brooke Hurd. Hurd then assisted on a Morgan Pero goal to give the Canes a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Goalie Rachel Loseby made six saves, including a highlight-reel stop on a breakaway where she dove and deflected a shot out of bounds to preserve the shutout.
Hartford (8-1-1) has given up just six goals all season and now has six shutouts in 10 games. The D-II Canes visit Bellows Falls (8-0 in D-III) on Monday.
Bristol, n.h.
Goalie Abby Duhaime had seven saves for Mascoma, who play host to Franklin on Wednesday.
Newport
Selena Coronis scored on a McNeel pass in the game’s opening moments to get Newport started. McNeel also set up Hailey Perry to give the hosts a 2-1 halftime lead, but Brady was able to rally after the break for the victory.
Stacia Dame stopped nine shots in the Newport net. The Tigers host Mascenic on Wednesday.

Philadelphia
Dartmouth dropped to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in Ivy League play. Emily Astarita led with a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs. The Big Green visits Princeton today.
