Barton, Vt. (ap) — A Vermont poet whose volumes of poetry detailed his understanding of the state and his experiences farming in the Northeast Kingdom has died.

Leland Kinsey died of lymphoma on Wednesday at the age of 66. The seventh-generation Vermonter has written eight volumes of poetry, and his most recent collection, Galvanized: New and Selected Poems, was published in the spring.

His publisher says a new Kinsey book will be published sometime next year.

The Barton native graduated from the University of Vermont and earned a graduate degree from Syracuse University before returning to the Northeast Kingdom.

Leland has been described as a dedicated farmer and “renaissance man.” Besides writing poetry, he taught it in schools in Vermont and New Hampshire through a program of the Vermont Arts Council.
