Hanover — The Hanover High golf team has edged Windham for the NHIAA Division II golf title the last couple autumns. On Thursday, the Jaguars earned some payback, as they edged the Marauders by one stroke to take Thursday’s season opener at Hanover Country Club.

Portsmouth and Bishop Brady also participated.

Last season, Hanover beat Windham by seven strokes, 399-406, to take its fourth D-II crown in five years, and beat the Jaguars on a tiebreaker in 2014.

Windham’s James McKee led all golfers with a 34 on Hanover’s par-34 front nine.

Phin Choukas led Hanover (2-1) with a 35, followed by teammates Brian Seltzer (38), Jack Brendel (38), David Lehmann (40), Peter Lukovits (41) and Jack Meehan (41).

Hanover will have to wait to exact revenge; the Marauders won’t face the Jaguars again until the D-II meet in October. Hanover greets Trinity and Kingswood on Tuesday.

Team scores: Windham 191, Hanover 192, Portsmouth 200, Bishop Brady 232.

Field Hockey Colby-Sawyer Picked Fourth

New London — Colby-Sawyer College was picked to finish fourth in the North Atlantic Conference East Division standings in 2016 in a poll conducted by the league’s coaches.

Colby-Sawyer (8-9, 2-3 NAC in 2015) will look to repeat the success of the 2015 season, when it increased its win total for a fourth straight season and made the NAC tournament for the first time.

Although sixth-year head coach Emily Rinde-Thorsen lost seven players to graduation, the team returns NAC Rookie of the Year Jordan Teixeira, who led the Chargers with a single-season program record of 22 points on eight goals and six assists.

Husson was picked to win the league.
