Fontaine — a 2015 Lebanon High graduate and former runner for the Raiders’ track and field and cross country teams — had a pace of 5:14 to edge 33-year-old Neal Graves, of Stowe, Vt., by 16 seconds.
Upper Valley residents captured 17 of the next 18 spots, led by Canaan’s Joel Burnett (third; 22:16), Enfield’s Rich Smith (fourth; 22:33) and Matthew Ozahowski, of Thetford (fifth 22:36).
Hanover’s Kevin Hartstein and Lebanon’s Dan Shea (both 22:42), Orford’s Liam Fleming (22:47), East Thetford’s Alex Hall (22:51) and Hanover’s Rob Edson (22:55) rounded off the top 10.
The race’s female winner was 24-year-old Lydia Gill, also of Lebanon, who was 25th overall in 6:29.
Grantham
Upper Valley Running Club had a number of strong finishers, including Greg Hagley (fifth; 1:06:29), Thomas Gessner (seventh; 1:07:19), Jeff Reed (13th; 1:11:07) and Felix Herron (21st; 1:14:25).
UVRC’s Pam Aman (26th; 1:15:53), Tom Moore (29th; 1:17:18), Michael Herron (37th; 1:19:52), Michael Libuda (40th; 1:20:32), Gillian Sowden (52nd; 1:24:05), Melissa Herman (87th; 1:33:31) and Peter Wild (93rd; 1:34:45) also placed in the top 100.
Brownsville
Greenfield, Mass.’s Ray Drewitz was third in 51:55, followed by Adam Sharp, of Sunapee (53:19); Peter Harris, of Hartland (53:42); Luke Tkaczyk, of Northwood, N.H. (54:02); Breckenridge, Colo.’s Mark Hurlbert (54:09); Alex Hall, of East Thetford (54:18); Michael Perkins, of Concord (54:33) and Lebanon’s Grant Fortier (54:57) in the top 10.
The first female to finish was Winooksi, Vt.’s Laura Abbene, in 1:00:05.

Other UVRC in the top 200 included Hanover’s Dorcas Wonsavage (139th; 1:31:22), Enfield’s Len Hall (153rd; 1:32:31), Auburn, N.H.’s Bob Mulvaney (172nd; 1:34:21), Piermont’s Michael Musty (179th; 1:34:06) and Freedom, N.H.’s Lydia Gill (195th; 1:35:47).
Rach Palos, Calif.’s Peter Gonnerman (223rd; 1:38:02), White River Junction’s David Rapp (233rd; 1:38:35), Canaan’s James Burnett (25th; 1:40:32) and Meriden’s Chuck Landry (296th; 1:43:33) cracked the top 300 while representing UVRC.
Hanover
Ben Williams and Casey Graham smashed back-to-back home runs for the Drillers, who received solid pitching from Lachlan Simmers and Charlie Bell.
Josh Bucci, Jared Licht, Zhiwen Liu, Ryan Malloy, Curtis Rice, Ian Smith and Matt Walsh all made contributions for the Drillers, comprised of players from Hanover, Norwich and Thetford.
Also during the tournament, the Lebanon White Sox defeated the Lebanon Cubs, the Drillers beat the Dresden Longhorns and the Thunder beat the White Sox to set up the championship game.

Manchester
The game marks a return for Copeland, who has played on the Fire roster against its Police rivals since the CHaD game began.
In all, 45 players representing 35 departments around the state have made the commitment to raise a minimum of $1,000 for the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth in order to participate in the event.
August’s matchup will be the sixth since the game’s inception, with Team Police holding a 3-2 edge in the series. Team Fire has been the top fundraising squad in four of the previous five years, including last year when the team raised nearly $27,000.
Including player efforts, sponsorships, donations and ticket purchases, last year’s game raised more than $62,000. Tickets for this summer’s contest are $10, with children ages 10 and younger getting in for free.

Activities include face painting, duck decorating, a duck derby, “Touch-a-Truck,” slides and tubes. Free services include a wellness check in with Alex Peck Day Memorial Hospital staff as well as yoga, chair massage, and weekend warrior and spinning classes.
Food includes cake, barbecue and a cake and pie auction, while the day ends with a squirt gun fight (bring your own squirt gun) from 1-2 p.m.

While the top graduating seniors from Vermont and New Hampshire compete at Merriman-Branch Field, members of the Dartmouth College men’s lacrosse team will stage the clinic on Hanover High’s upper grass field from 1-2:30 p.m. The clinic is open to boys in grades 3-8, and each player should bring equipment including sticks, helmets, arm and shoulder pads, a mouth guard and gloves. Participants are welcome to stay afterward and attend the all-star games as guests of the Lions Club.
