In his career as a minister, he served the following Congregational churches: Greenfield (N.H.), Laconia (N.H.), Springfield (Mass.), West Paris (Maine), and Woodfords in Portland (Maine).
His varied interests included the Greek and Hebrew languages, ham radio, motorcycles, electronics, camping, hiking, science fiction, flying his own single-engine airplane, carpentry, and masonry. In later years he self-published a supernatural fantasy novel entitled The Crow and his Boy.
He leaves his wife of 14 years, Beth Stoddard of Portland; his daughter, Ellen Stickney of Laconia, N.H.; his son, Bruce Trottier of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his brother, Richard Trottier of Bedford, N.H.; his sisters, Donna Nihei of Alberta, Canada, and Luane Clark of Warren, N.H.; stepdaughter, Laurie Bradley of Standish, Maine; stepson, Joseph “Mack” Bradley of Gorham, Maine; his wife’s daughters, Katherine “Katy” Phillips of West Bath, Maine and Elise “Lisa” Klein of Potomac, Md.; grandchildren, Andrea (Kirk) Besegai, Robert Kirk, Chelsea Trottier, Haley Trottier, Brett Trottier, Daniel Wiley, and Christina Wiley; and great-grandchildren, Collin Besegai, Madelyn Besegai, and Anthony Alfierio.
There will be a memorial service celebrating Doug’s life on Thursday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at the State Street Congregational Church, 159 State Street, Portland, ME 04101.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in his memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 383 US Rte 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough ME 04074.
