Giordano took third overall with a time of 4 minutes, 11.86 seconds. A three-time Ivy League champion in the event, that time was almost 1½ seconds better than her time in Thursday’s semifinal run.
A second-team All-American as a junior in the indoor 3,000 meters, this was Giordano’s first time finishing in the top eight in a national final, which earned her first-team recognition. Giordano took the Dartmouth record in the 1,500 from seven-time NCAA national champion Abbey D’Agostino’s previous mark of 4:11.94.
Mississippi State’s Maria Freitas was the winner in 4:09.53, but nearly lost the title after prematurely celebrating and almost being caught from behind by Stanford’s Elise Cranny (4:09.54), hanging on by one-hundredth of a second.

Whitehorn tied Akron’s Claudia Garcia for third at the NCAA Track & Field Championship, clearing 5 feet, 11.5 inches on her first attempt. Whitehorn took seventh during over the winter in the indoor track season to also pick up first-team All American honors.
Now a three-time All American in high jump, Whitehorn graduates as the most decorated high jumper in program history.
Hanover
Danielak split his time on the mound this past season as a starter and reliever, posting a 2-3 record with a 2.95 ERA while leading the team with a strikeout rate of 9.76 per nine innings (43 in 39 innings). Opponents hit just .263 against him, and he walked just nine batters (2.04 per nine innings) to help Dartmouth rank 11th in the country in fewest walks issued per nine innings.
In three seasons with the Big Green, Danielak is 4-9 with a 4.16 ERA and three saves over 97 innings with 87 strikeouts and just 21 walks. Danielak is the 39th Big Green selection since the draft began in 1965.
On Friday, Dartmouth’s Duncan Robinson was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the ninth round.
New Britain, Conn.
Kennedy had a dominant showing in the 300-meter hurdles with a winning time of 43.38 seconds, a full 1.7 seconds ahead of second place. Kennedy added a fifth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.43 seconds.
Comstock excelled in the throwing events, winning the discus with a toss of 127 feet, 7 inches. Comstock added a fifth-place finish in the shot put and was 18th in javelin.
Lebanon’s Kath Merchant was 18th in the shot put and 27th in the discus. Woodstock’s Grace Vollers took 11th in the javelin and Anna Dieffenbach was 12th in the long jump. Izzy Giesing was 15th in the 800 meters for the Oxbow girls and Hannah Giesing took 23rd in the 400-meter dash.
Oxbow’s Owen Pelletier was eighth in the boys long jump.
