College Station, Texas — Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin says assistant Aaron Moorehead has been disciplined for a series of tweets about loyalty and accountability he posted last week after a highly touted quarterback recruit announced he was breaking a verbal commitment to the Aggies.

Sumlin said in a statement Monday that Moorehead “abused the privilege of social media and the result reflected poorly” on Moorehead, the football team and the school.

A few minutes after Tate Martell, from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, tweeted Wednesday night that he was reopening his recruitment, Moorhead posted, “I feel sorry for ppl who never understand loyalty.”

Moorehead followed with more critical tweets, never naming Martell. Soon after, another Aggies recruit, receiver Mannie Netherly, posted on Twitter that he also was reversing his commitment.

Sumlin’s statement also said: “He has apologized publicly and privately for his actions and I am confident that he understands the expectations moving forward. However, there are consequences for actions and Aaron has been disciplined and the details will remain private. We will use this as a learning tool for all of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, and we are now moving forward as a program.”
