The Valley News has launched a new weekly column on its website featuring pets that are adoptable from organizations based in the Upper Valley. Read the first edition here.
The descriptions and photos of the pets are submitted by the organizations and sent to the Valley News, and we will gather them and post them in this space.
If you’re interested in meeting or adopting one of the featured pets, please contact the organizations via the links in the pets’ descriptions (and let us know if you add a new family member from this page!).
And if you’re involved with a pet adoption organization in the Upper Valley and want to contribute to this feature, please email mcassidy@vnews.com.
Daisy, adoptable from River Valley Animal Protection League
We all seem to have different names we call Daisy: Daisy-Joe, Daisy-Mae, Daisy-Doodle, Come-Back-Here, and so on, but one thing we all call her is “quirky.” Daisy has been at the River Valley Animal Protection League shelter for more than two years, partly because it takes a while to understand her. She is not a cuddly cat, nor a lap cat. She is a comedian. One of her favorite activities is to see if she can roll around and look cute enough to get someone’s attention. Then it’s usually time for a game of the pet-my-belly cat trap.
Daisy likes to play jingle-ball soccer and enjoys murdering fluffy things on a stick. When she is showing off or there’s no one else to play with she can be found running in horizontal circles around her kitty tower.
Daisy is also very sensitive to stress. When things are calm and our population is very low, she thrives and shows an affectionate side that is reserved for people she trusts. She will do best as an only cat or with one quiet, non-confrontational furry roommate. Her family will need to be willing to spend time playing with her each day, as well.
No matter what, though, Daisy will make her new family laugh. If you think you might have what it takes to be Donkey to this Shrek of a cat, come meet her. If you still think so let’s talk!

Parker, adoptable from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society
“Hi! My name is Parker and I’m a 1 1/2 year old neutered male hound mix. I came to Lucy Mackenzie after being bumped from place to place my entire life. Having so many different homes has me truly craving consistency!
“We’ve worked on lots of things since I’ve been here, like walking safely on a leash, patience and learning to not jump up on people. My biggest daily challenge is forgetting how large I am! I think I’ve come a very long way in my training, as do the people that care for me.
“I look forward to my walks, playtime and dinner time, too. I’d really like to find a canine buddy, but it will have to be the right match. I have a great sense of humor with a heart as big as I am and I promise to be a most loyal companion. If you’ve been looking for a dog to fill your heart and home, stop in and meet me today!”

Parker is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.
Cleo, adoptable from the Upper Valley Humane Society
“Hi, my name is Cleo! I’m a 3 year old Labrador mix. I love people and I show my affection by cuddling. I also enjoy the company of other dogs. I’m house-trained and crate-trained. My canine personality is “goofball” because I’m a fun-loving, happy-all-the-time, glass-is-half-full kind of dog looking for someone who loves to laugh and play around. You must have a great sense of humor and some time to spend with me. I’m on a mission to please you.”

Baxter, adoptable from Potter’s Angels Rescue
“My name is Baxter. I possess super powers. I have so much green energy, I could reduce dependence on fossil fuels. And I can leap over average-size fences, and even ‘invisible’ fences, in a single bound.
“I have many other strengths, as well. I am fully housetrained and crate-trained. I know ‘sit,’ ‘down,’ ‘stay’ and so on. I ignore cats and get along with most dogs, especially those that are submissive.
“I have lived with children and while I am well-behaved and loving with them, I would prefer not to live with them full-time — they really stress me out. So, I am seeking a quiet adults-only home. But I also want someone with an active lifestyle to share my energy with. Do you go for daily hikes or jogs? I would love to be your companion! Do you enjoy training in agility? I excel at jumping obstacles!
“I would be remiss if I did not also mention that I take an inexpensive medication twice-daily for a seizure disorder. My juvenile idiopathic epilepsy is totally managed with no side-effects or complications, and it does not slow me down.”
Baxter is an approximately 3 1/2 year-old 55-pound male of mixed descent. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.
