White River Junction
The fourth edition of the event raised a total of $10,770 to benefit the UVAC swim team’s scholarship fund as well as charitable initiatives.
It’s the highest total in the Swim-a-thon’s four-year history and exceeded UVAC’s goal of $6,500.
Benefactors included the Haven homeless shelter and food pantry in White River Junction as well the USA Swimming Foundation, the national governing body’s program that seeks to prevent drownings and provide important funding to National Swim Team members.
UVAC swim team athletes swam a total of 8,959 during two hours on March 26, drawing many of their 141 members.
The event raised $973 for the Haven and $538 for USA Swimming, with the remaining funds going toward UVAC scholarships to help members cover swim team dues, meet expenses, equipment and travel.

The club’s U13 boys team opened on April 17 with a 5-0 win against GPS Classics Elite at Kimball Union Academy, then beat Maine Seacoast Mariners Premier 9-0 on Sunday in Epping, N.H.
Tucker Monson, Jared Pugh, David Stoffel, Owen Stannard, Tyler Martin and Henry Aspinwall all contributed scoring during the two-game onslaught.
Lightning’s U10 boys Sonic swept two New England Premiere League games in Massachusetts last weekend, beating GPS Rhode Island North Elite, 3-0, before a 6-2 victory over GPS Mass. Metro North Elite.
Ryder Hayes scored once in each game for the Sonic, while Cayden Van Dolah, Jack Stadheim, Zach Miles, Zach Tracy and Ian Press had one goal each.
Angus Frew was strong in goal, Aidan Smith led the midfield and Beckett Sobel anchored the defense for the Sonic.
The Lightning U14 Boys Flames went 1-2 over the weekend, beating GPS New Hampshire Classics 5-2 before back-to-back, 1-0 losses against Massachusetts-based U14 Boys Aztecs and GPS Phoenix, of Maine.

Lightning’s U13 Girls Breakers went 1-1 in their season-opening weekend, defeating Hudson 3-0 before losing by the same score against Nashua.
Sarah McGinley-Smith had two goals and an assist — one unassisted and the other on a crossing pass from Arwen Clayton — and Pepper Johnson had the third goal on a penalty kick.
Sally Rainy earned the shutout.
Clayton, Ella MacLean, Eli Coyle and Novah Conway all had scoring chances against Nashua that came up just short, while midfielders Audrey Park, Katie Stannard, Lauren Pidgeon and Catie Somoza were all strong at midfield and Lilian Hall excelled on defense.
The Lightning U18 Boys Storm tied Seacoast United Maine, 1-1, on Sunday.
Casey Starr put the Storm up 1-0 when he knocked in the rebound of an initial shot off the post by Mason Thompson.
United tied it on an own goal in the second half.
The Lightning U17 Boys Strikers also played to a draw, tying FC Boston Bolt Elite in Braintree, Mass., 2-2.
The Strikers led twice, first on an opening-minute goal by Luke Messersmith, assisted by Marcus Helbe. They later went up 2-1 on Tucker Stenger’s second-half goal before the Bolt rallied to tie it once again.
Finally, Lightning Boys U11 Shooters fell to Seacoast United Maine SC Mariners Premier, 5-2.
Liam Worden and Smail scored for the Shooters, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Mariners’ earlier spurt of three goals in five minutes.
