Cincinnati — Brock Boeser had a goal and two assists as North Dakota snapped Northeastern’s 13-game winning streak with a 6-2 win Friday in the semifinals of the NCAA Midwest Regional hockey tournament.

Nolan Stevens gave Northeastern (22-14-5) a 1-0 lead at 3:07 of the first period, but third-ranked North Dakota (31-6-4) then reeled off five straight goals.

North Dakota will play Michigan or Notre Dame in Saturday’s region championship game for a berth in the Frozen Four.

All four North Dakota lines scored. The Hawks also got goals from Johnny Simonson, Tucker Poolman, Luke Johnson, Bryn Chyzyk and Drake Caggiula.

North Dakota goalie Cam Johnson made 24 saves. Ryan Ruck stopped 30 for the Huskies.

Matt Benning scored in the third for Northeastern.

Minnesota-Duluth 2Providence 1 (2 ot)

Worcester, Mass. — Karson Kuhlman scored at 57 seconds of the second overtime to give Minnesota-Duluth a victory over defending NCAA champion Providence in the Northeast Regional semifinals.

The Bulldogs (19-16-5) will face the Boston College-Harvard winner for a spot in the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida.

Minnesota-Duluth’s Tony Cameranesi opened the scoring at 3:18 of the third, and Steven McParland tied for Providence (27-7-4) at 7:22.

Kasimir Kaskisuo made 36 saves for Minnesota-Duluth, and Nick Ellis stopped 54 shots for Providence.

Michigan 3Notre Dame 2 (ot)

Cincinnati — Tyler Motte took a pass in front of the goal and scored 8:19 into overtime, giving Michigan (25-7-5) a victory over rival Notre Dame in an Midwest Regional semifinal.

The long-time rivals have faced each other twice in the NCAA Tournament and both games have gone overtime, with each winning once.

Michigan was the top-scoring team in the country, averaging 4.89 goals. The Wolverines pulled one out in a game where goals were hard to come by as Notre Dame (19-11-7) cranked up its defense.

The Wolverines won their first Big Ten Tournament with left wing Kyle Connor — the league’s top freshman and player of the year — leading the way. He couldn’t even get off a shot in the first two periods as Notre Dame turned it into a grind-it-out game.

Connor and J.T. Compher had passes setting up Motte’s decisive goal.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A college hockey referee who fell during pregame warmups in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has died.

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association and the National Collegial Hockey Conference issued a statement saying Oliver “Butch” Mousseau died Friday.

Mousseau struck his head on the ice on March 18 at Van Andel Arena. He was to have worked a semifinal game between Michigan Tech and Ferris State.

WZZM-TV reports that the 48-year-old Mousseau was not wearing a helmet and had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher.

Mousseau also had officiating experience in the minors and Canadian juniors.

He is survived by his wife and three children.
