The Big Green worked an extra frame for a 6-4 win over the Gaels (5-10) in eight innings in their opening game. Dartmouth (9-8) followed up with a 2-1 defeat of the Tigers (13-12) in Friday’s second contest.
Dartmouth’s Tiffany Dyson and Kelsey Miller scored in the top of the eighth against Iona to provide the winning margin. The Gaels did their part to help, committing a throwing error and a passed ball. Morgan McCalmon worked the final three innings for the win.
The Big Green jumped on Pacific for two runs in the bottom of the first and milked that lead the rest of the game. Dartmouth loaded the bases with no outs and had two runners erased at home on grounders before Dyson’s two-run single put the Green in front for good. Breanna Ethridge picked up the win, and McCalmon grabbed a two-inning save.
The Big Green has a 1 p.m. rematch with Pacific along with a 4:15 date with host UC Davis today.

Sanders (2-1) needed just 92 pitches to complete the nine innings, facing three batters over the minimum. He began the game with a four-pitch walk, but that was the last free pass he issued all night. After the Big Green stranded a runner in each of the first three frames, Sanders faced the minimum over the final six thanks to three double plays behind him. He helped himself as well by striking out seven batters.
Freshman Rob Emery was the only Dartmouth player to get past second base all night. The teams continue their three-game weekend series tonight at 6 p.m.
