Dartmouth to Host Climate Conference

Hanover — Dartmouth College is preparing to host a conference titled “Changing Climate, Changing Minds” on the weekend of April 8, focusing on the “predicted dire effects of human activity on the world’s climate,” according to a Tuesday news release.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of the “Sustainability Solutions Cafe,” a lecture series supported by the Porter Family Fund for Sustainability in the Dartmouth Curriculum.

The conference will start at 7 p.m. next Friday in Filene Auditorium in Moore Hall, with a keynote address from Terry Tempest Williams, an environmental activist and author. It will conclude the following afternoon.

According to the release, other speakers will include Jim McCarthy, a biologist at Harvard; David Loy, a Zen Buddhist teacher; and the Rev. Canon Sally Bingham, an Episcopal priest.

N.H. Sen. Forrester to Run for Governor

Concord — State Sen. Jeanie Forrester is poised to become the fourth Republican candidate to enter New Hampshire’s gubernatorial race.

Mike Dennehy, a GOP strategist working with Forrester, said she’ll announce her bid on March 30 in Meredith.

She is running to succeed outgoing Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan, who is running for U.S. Senate. Forrester is entering a four-way GOP primary alongside Executive Councilor Chris Sununu, Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas and state Rep. Frank Edelblut.

Forrester is in her third term as a state senator and is chairwoman of the Senate Finance Committee, which oversees the budget-writing process.
