Preview: Royalton voters to decide on AI and crypto data center moratorium

Jerry Swasey, of South Royalton, makes his way to the voting booth in South Royalton, Vt., on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, with his ballot for a reconsideration vote on a 3.8 million bond to help the White River Valley Unified School District to fund $6.17 million in improvements to buildings on its Bethel and Royalton campuses. District residents in favor of the bond, which failed to pass in March, petitioned for the revote with signatures of 5% of the two towns' registered voters. In order to flip the outcome, the bond would need to receive at least 291 "yes" votes, or at least two thirds of the number of "no" votes cast in March. The project would include improved secure entrances on both campuses, and in South Royalton, creating a performing arts center and enlarging its wood, welding and mechanic shops.
