NEW YORK — Campbell Brewer scored six goals as the Dartmouth College women’s lacrosse team crushed Columbia, 21-2, on Friday.
Katie Bourque added four goals and Kierra Sweeney three for the Big Green (4-3, 2-0 Ivy League), which amassed a 13-1 lead at the half. Elizabeth Mastrio, Sophia Turchetta and Ellie Carson each scored twice for Dartmouth. Goalies Katie Forman and Becca Wade combined to make five saves for the Big Green.
Alexandria Absey scored both goals for Columbia (3-7, 0-3). The Big Green heads to Hofstra on Tuesday.
HOUSTON — The Big Green (9-5), ranked 45th in the nation, bounced No. 29 Texas Tech (11-7) to open Rice University’s Ralph O’Connor Invitational.
Dartmouth took the doubles point and early singles wins from Charlie Broom and Peter Conklin staked the Big Green to a 3-0 lead. When the Red Raiders closed to within a point with two victories of their own, Dartmouth’s Dan Martin shook off a first-set loss to beat Ilgiz Valiev, 2-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5, to clinch the match.
The Big Green continues the tournament against Utah State on Saturday.
HANOVER — Colby-Sawyer (4-4) edged Endicott (3-4) at Dartmouth’s Boss Tennis Center.
Alex Wright, Matt Burke and Julius Lowman won for the Chargers in singles and doubles.
DALLAS — Dartmouth (3-11) fell to SMU (5-9) in the Big Green’s final spring break match.
The Big Green are now 3-11 overall while the Mustangs improved to 5-9.
Chuyang Guan was Dartmouth’s lone winner from the No. 5 position, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The Green will open Ivy League play next Saturday at Harvard.
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Dartmouth sophomore James Turner, returning from an injury to play in his first tournament of the school year, fired a 2-under 69 to finish the first round tied with three others atop the leaderboard at the Furman Invitational.
Riding Turner’s strong play, the Big Green completed the day seventh in the 21-team field with an 8-over 292 on the par-71, 6,984-yard Furman University Golf Course.
HANOVER — Dartmouth pitcher Cole O’Connor has been selected as one of 30 caindidates for the Senior CLASS Award in college baseball.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be an NCAA Division I senior with noteworthy achievements in community, classroom, character and competition. A Bedford, Mass. native, O’Connor has been part of the Big Green’s starting rotation since his freshman year, owning a 10-10 record with a 4.48 earned-run average over 174⅔ innings.
O’Connor carries a 3.26 grade-point average as a government major.
O’Connor is the only Ivy Leaguer among the 30 candidates, from which a winner will be announced in June.
WINDSOR — Five more Upper Valley basketball standouts have been added to the roster for Saturday’s VBCA Senior All-Star Games at Windsor High School.
The group — Windsor’s Hunter Grela and Robert Slocum, Thetford’s Jake Colby, Sharon’s Fisher Kelley and Rivendell’s Isaac Martel — will suit up for the North roster in the Division III-IV boys game scheduled to start at 1 p.m. They join seven other athletes and two coaches who were named to other rosters earlier in the week.
The quadrupleheader begins at 11 a.m. with the North-South game featuring Division III-IV girls.
