CLAREMONT — A 21-year-old Springfield, Vt., man faces a charge of resisting arrest after he was taken into custody near North Street following a brief pursuit on Thursday.
The man was first reported as a “person in crisis” carrying a knife in a wooded area behind Disnard Elementary School on Hanover Street just before 3 p.m., on Thursday, Claremont Police Chief Brent Wilmot said in a news release.
When police responded and made contact with the man, who Wilmot said was wearing a bullet-proof vest, he fled through a North Street neighborhood. Police took him into custody after a brief standoff, the release said.
The school was placed in a “shelter-in-place” protocol when the report first came in and was lifted at 3:15 after police determined there was no longer a threat.
