Boston — Sean Malone had two goals and an assist as fifth-ranked Harvard defeated Dartmouth, 5-2, on Friday in an ECAC Hockey men’s game at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Dartmouth’s Will Graber and Josh Hartley each scored third-period with shots from the point, but the Crimson answered back with a goal of its own shortly after each and notched three in the period for the win.

Dartmouth (8-12-3, 5-9-2 ECAC) and Harvard (15-5-2, 11-4-2 ECAC) split the season series as the Green knocked off the Crimson, 8-4, on Jan. 17 in Hanover.

The Crimson led 2-0 heading into the third period on goals from Malone and Jake Horton in each of the first two frames. Malone’s second of the night made it 3-0 1:39 into the third.

That’s when Graber put an innocent-looking shot along the ice from the point through traffic that deflected off a Harvard player and into the back of the net, breaking goalie Merrick Madsen’s shutout bid with 14:14 to play. But Harvard’s Luke Esposito answered with a goal less than two minutes later.

A five-minute major and a game misconduct were assessed to Horton less than 10 seconds after the Esposito tally, giving the Big Green an opportunity to cut away at the deficit. Hartley’s point shot 14 seconds into the lengthy power play did just that, but the visitors were unable to capitalize again.

As the major expired, Alexander Kerfoot wrapped up the scoring with Harvard’s final goal at 12:54.

Dartmouth goalie Devin Buffalo made 34 stops. Madsen stopped 28.
