The vice president’s revealing words

My, my Mr. Vice President — you’d better watch what you say and how you say it.

Here’s a recent example of your revealing words. You were on TV, addressing an outside crowd, in broad daylight, and as you spoke, one unseen male voice called out, “I love you man!”

Your reply, Mr. J.D. Vance, to the speaker, “I love you too!” Then you added, “But in a completely platonic way – I’m the Vice President, not James Tallirico!” — referring to the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas. This last part of your comment was accompanied with a pointed finger, a sly smile, a winking grin.

Careful what you say. Any man who proclaims another man is gay, or implies he is, is revealing a great deal about his own sexual insecurities. It’s called “projecting”. Maybe it was some event in your past, maybe it is something ongoing, maybe is something you hope never happens again.

But the truth is most homophobes — homophobic people — are unhappy closeted gays, hiding from themselves, and accusing other people. You can continue to speak that way, tell us all about yourself. Or you could open your mind and spirit and shut your mouth.

Watch what you say and how you say it.
