Help shape Plainfield’s future
With Plainfield’s Town Administrator retiring after nearly four decades, our community faces a vital leadership transition. The Selectboard’s plan utilizes two committees to help select finalists this fall. To build deep public trust and find the best possible candidate, it is crucial that these search committees represent a true cross-section of our entire town.
Every single resident brings valuable insight to this process. A person’s background, financial status, or property size should never dictate the value of their voice. True civic capability is not determined by a large home, a high bank balance, or an expensive vehicle. We need your unique skills, lived experience, and perspective to make it successful.
Essential skills to address these challenges are found right in our everyday neighborhoods. Residents who balance complex household finances understand structural budget discipline. Homeowners who hire and manage independent tradespeople, oversee home projects, or volunteer for local community programs possess the exact practical vetting and project coordination experience needed to evaluate an administrator’s capabilities. Please consider stepping forward to serve on these committees.
Our town is dealing with critical, long-term challenges: managing unsustainable municipal and school budgets, correcting persistent audit discrepancies, and ensuring that KUA institutional property tax exemptions strictly follow state regulations. Overcoming these hurdles requires a transparent town office that respects every taxpayer and actively works to maximize voter participation under Senate Bill 2 at the 2027 town meeting.
The actual candidate interviewing process is slated for September and October. If you have the time and the practical, transferable, real-world skills to help guide this search, please reach out directly to HR consultant Beverly Widger or Selectboard Chair Amy Lappin through the town clerk, Sarah Berman, to express your interest.
Let’s work together to shape a strong future for Plainfield. If you want to ensure our tax base is protected and that our local government stays lean and accountable, please consider volunteering now to serve on this job search committee.
