WEATHERSFIELD โ€” Voters on Tuesday approved a revised school budget of $9.8 million, 363-221.

The School Board presented the new budget with $146,000 in cuts after voters rejected the $9.95 million budget on Town Meeting Day last month, 440-268.

The 1.5% budget cut included one teaching position and $15,000 from athletics. The board also eliminated some nursing services and updates to the schoolโ€™s mandated AED equipment (Automated External Defibrillator used to treat sudden cardiac arrest) from the budget because the district received grants to cover those expenses.

The approved budget has a per pupil spending increase of just below 10% as compared to 13% in the first budget. The tax rate impact was reduced from 21 cents per $100 of assessed valuation to 15 cents.

Tuesday’s turnout was 24%, or 585, of the town’s 2,401 registered voters.

On Town Meeting Day, March 3, Weathersfield voters also defeated the $2.05 million municipal general fund budget, 450-257, and the $1.31 million highway budget, 362-346.

A revised general fund budget of $2.02 million and a revised highway fund budget of $1.3 million will be presented at an informational meeting on Saturday, May 16 at 12:30 p.m. at Weathersfield School, with ballot voting on Tuesday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Martin Memorial Hall.

Also on the May 19 warning are appropriations for the fire apparatus acquisition reserve fund for $75,000 to go toward replacing the department’s 2006 brush vehicle and $150,000 for the highway motorized equipment reserve fund to replace a 10-wheel dump truck.

Voters rejected a $100,000 appropriation for the apparatus fund and a $292,000 appropriation for the motorized equipment fund on Town Meeting Day.
