After dropping its season opener on the road at Boston University, 13-5 on Feb. 15, the Big Green responded and got their first win of the season.
On the road on Friday, Dartmouth defeated Vermont 14-10. Quinn Stankovits was on fire offensively for Dartmouth, notching four goals.
Other offensive contributions included Tyler Juhlin, Alex Jessey, and Stu Gates, each scoring twice. Mitchell Monte, Julian Navab, Thomas Power, and William Stahl each added a goal.
The Big Green are now 1-1 this season and host Merrimack on Tuesday at 4 p.m. They then host Siena on Saturday at noon.
Women’s lacrosse on a heater to start the season
The Big Green continued their hot start to the season, routing New Hampshire on the road on Wednesday, 22-3. Katie Barr led the way offensively with four goals, while Fiona Keefe scored three times.
Lauren Riley, Annie Small, Catherine Erb, and Samantha Bennett all had two goals each. At the same time, Charlotte Myers, Madeline Egan, Etta Coburn, Mia Puccio, Kate Riley, Ryan Hapgood, and Mia Jensen each scored once.
Additionally, Maya Kendall, who has since been named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, set a Dartmouth and Ivy League single-game record for draw controls with 23.
The winning continued on Saturday when the Big Green traveled to face Wagner and picked up a 23-2 win. Small was the Big Green’s leading scorer with three goals, while Myers, Erb, Keefe, Jensen, and Sarah Caulkins each scored twice.
Kate Riley, Coburn, Caroline Kendall, Egan, Bennett, Lauren Riley, Hapgood, Barr, Emma Goodwin, and McLean Strokes each had a goal of their own.
The Big Green are now 3-0 and open Ivy League play at Harvard on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Skiing wins EISA Championship for second straight year
The Big Green, who notched 982.5 points at this weekend’s Middlebury Carnival, which serves as the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Championship, finished in first place.
Highlights for Dartmouth include John Steel Hagenbuch (47:28.3) winning the men’s 20K freestyle, and Ava Thurston (54:1.2) finishing second for the women.
In the slalom, Heming Sola finished second for the men, and Zoe Zimmermann (1:38.42) won it for the women.
The Big Green will next participate in the NCAA Championship on March 11 in Park City, Utah.
Women’s golf wins first spring tournament in historic fashion
The Big Green opened the spring season with a first-place finish at the Space Coast Classic in Melbourne, Fla., over the weekend. Dartmouth finished -3 to pick up the win in the 14-team event.
Things did not start well for the Big Green in the first round, as they shot +10 on Saturday, but they most definitely turned things around in the second round, which was also played on Saturday.
Dartmouth broke an Ivy League record, shooting -14 in the round as a team. Sophie Thai (-7), Olivia Cong (-6), and Sophia Li (-1) all shot under par during the round.
The Big Green completed the tournament with a +1 in the final round to seal the victory.
Dartmouth will compete next at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va., which begins on March 23.
Men’s hockey picks up a regulation and shootout win over the weekend
After falling to Brown 4-3 on Valentine’s Day, the Big Green got back to their winning ways on Friday, taking down RPI, 3-1, on the road. Hayden Stavroff scored twice in the contest, and Cam MacDonald added a goal of his own.
Dartmouth followed its regulation win over RPI with a shootout win at Union on Saturday. A game that featured another two-goal performance from Stavroff in regulation, went to a shootout at 3-3.
Another Stavroff goal — this time in the shootout — and another from Nikita Nikora gave the Big Green the win. Stavroff was named the ECAC Forward of the Week for his performances.
Dartmouth is now 18-7-3 overall, 12-5-3 in conference play, and remains ranked No. 14 in the country in the latest USCHO.com rankings. The Big Green wrap up the regular season this week when they host Quinnipiac on Friday at 7 p.m. and Princeton on Saturday, also at 7 p.m.
Men’s basketball picks up a win
The Big Green defeated Columbia on the road Saturday in a pulse-pounding game, 64-63. Jackson Munro, who was Dartmouth’s leading scorer with 13 points, hit the game-tying and game-winning free throws with three seconds left to give his squad the win.
Brandon Mitchell-Day, who had a 12-point, 11-rebound, double-double for the Big Green, also came up big for his team as the only other Dartmouth player to score in double figures.
The Big Green are now 11-13 overall and 5-6 in conference play. They travel to Penn on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup and then to Princeton on Saturday for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
Women’s tennis wins twice this weekend
The Big Green were victorious over the University of Toledo, 6-1, on Saturday in East Lansing, Mich. Alexandra Orlins, Josephine Lombardi, Sam Grosjean, Michela Moore, and Peyton Capuano had singles wins, while the duos of Capuano and Moore, and Lombardi and Elise Wong won in doubles.
Next up on the docket for Dartmouth was Michigan State on Sunday, where the Big Green got a 4-2 win. Capuano, Moore, and Grosjean had the singles wins, while Grosjean and Orlins, and Capuano and Moore won in doubles.
The Big Green are now 6-3 overall. They host Stony Brook on Saturday at 11 a.m. and UMass on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Women’s squash athletes recognized with Ivy honors
Maria Clara Ramírez, who was 2-11 during the regular season from the first position, was named to the All-Ivy Second Team. Nathalie Taylor, who was 4-8 this season, was recognized with academic All-Ivy honors.
Men’s squash athletes also recognized with Ivy honors
Gurshan Jolly was named to the All-Ivy Second Team after a 5-8 performance this season. Warren Klein, who was 5-6 this season, was awarded Academic All-Ivy honors.
Rugby athletes earn All-NIRA honors
Cindy Taulava, Paola Arredondo Almeida, and Katelyn Walker were named to the All-NIRA First Team, Annie Henrich and Marley Larkin made the All-NIRA Second Team, and Jordynn LeBeau and Hehea Pulotu were named All-NIRA Honorable Mentions.
Egner out as field hockey coach
The Dartmouth Big Green field hockey team is on the hunt for a new head coach as Mark Egner will not return next season. Egner, who had coached the squad since 2020, was 20-61 in his time with the Big Green.
“Following a comprehensive evaluation of our field hockey program, we have decided that a change in leadership is needed,” said Big Green Director of Athletics Mike Harrity in a news release announcing the move. “We’re grateful for Mark’s dedication and wish him well.”
Women’s hockey season ends in first round of ECAC tournament
The Big Green took on Brown on the road on Saturday in the first round of the ECAC tournament and fell 7-2. Ella Inglis and Kenzington Lehman scored for Dartmouth in the loss.
Dartmouth finished the season 5-23-3 overall and 3-16-3 in conference play.
Women’s swimming finishes last at Ivy League Championships
The Big Green finished this past week’s Ivy League Championships in Providence, R.I., with 523.5 points, which was good for eighth place. Despite the last-place finish, several Dartmouth athletes had standout performances at the event.
On the Championship’s first day, the Big Green broke a team record in the 200 medley relay.
On day two, Carinn Bethea, Samantha Li, Lindsey Drumm, and Lane Murray finished with the third-best program finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.17).
As for the third day, Bethea (1:46.50) qualified for the A-final in the 200 freestyle, while Kathy Jia (1:02.17) also got into an A-final in the 100 breaststroke.
On Saturday, the final day of competition, Bethea (49.24) competed in the 100 freestyle A-final and finished fifth. Maggie Lambdin also competed in an A-final in the three-meter dive and finished sixth.
Baseball wins one of three to start the season
The Big Green opened their season on Saturday in Boiling Springs, N.C., with a doubleheader. First, they battled FDU and came out with a 7-6 win. Stefan Di Corrado was huge for Dartmouth in the win with two doubles and four RBIs.
Dartmouth, however, was unable to pick up another win later in the day, falling to Gardner-Webb, 8-7. Nico Banez had two RBIs and a double in the loss.
The Big Green dropped their second straight game on Sunday, losing to Gardner-Webb again, 6-2. Jack Niswonger and Axel Riess each had a hit and an RBI in the losing effort.
Dartmouth (1-2) will travel to face No. 2 LSU on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Grambling State on Saturday at 2 p.m., and LSU again on Sunday at 2 p.m. down in Baton Rouge, La.
Softball goes 0-5 at Dugout Club Classic
The Big Green began its season on Friday with a doubleheader at the Dugout Club Classic down in Tallahassee, Fla and came away empty-handed in the wins department.
They first fell to Elon, 10-1. Elon jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the third inning and never looked back. The Big Green’s lone run came from a wild pitch, which allowed Samantha Gresham to score.
That loss was followed by another later in the day to No. 7 Florida State, 10-2. Once again, the Big Green found themselves behind early, 4-0 in the third inning.
They would cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI double from Olivia Schramm and a wild pitch that scored Hayvin Barclay. However, that was all the runs Dartmouth could muster before the Seminoles ran away with the win.
On Saturday, the squads ran it back, but the result was the same as Dartmouth fell first to Elon, 4-3 and 8-0 against Florida State. Schramm and Sydney Herrmann each had an RBI in the loss to Elon.
Finally, the Big Green closed out on Sunday against Alabama and fell in a close one, 3-2. Justice Malone had an RBI in the contest.
Dartmouth (0-5) continues play with the Black & Gold Classic in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday at 6 p.m. against UCF, then a doubleheader against GWU and Wagner on Friday at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
The Big Green have another doubleheader on Saturday with Florida A&M and UCF at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and then wrap up the weekend on Sunday against Wagner at 9 a.m.
Women’s basketball drops fourth straight
Dartmouth fell at home on Saturday to Columbia 81-42, marking its fourth consecutive loss. Zeynep Ozel, who was the Big Green’s leading scorer with 11 points, was the only Dartmouth athlete to score in double figures.
The Big Green are now 10-14 overall and 1-10 in conference play. They host Princeton on Friday at 6 p.m. and Penn on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Men’s golf finishes last in spring opener
The Big Green began their spring season this past weekend at the Savannah Intercollegiate in Savannah, Ga., finishing 18th out of 18 teams (+81)
Luke Harper was Dartmouth’s best individual finisher, shooting a +18, which was good for 75th place.
