Annemarie Hoffmeister

Lebanon, NH –

Annemarie Hoffmeister passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, at home in Lebanon, NH. Born on March 19, 1941, in Freiburg, Germany, Annemarie was raised by her aunt and uncle, following the untimely death of her parents, Friedrich and Hilke Ruhkopf.

At the age of twenty-one she met her first husband, John Price, while studying English in the United Kingdom. She had a passion for languages and hoped to become a translator. They were married in 1963, and eventually settled in Hanover, NH, where John taught English at Dartmouth College. Annemarie remained in the Upper Valley for the rest of her life, raising her daughters, Manon and Kirsten, working as an administrative assistant at Dartmouth, and forging lasting friendships through tennis, volunteering and work.

Annemarie married her late husband Werner Hoffmeister, Chair of the German Department at Dartmouth, in 1983. They shared a wonderful life together until his death in 1998, spending time at their second home in Ogunquit, ME, and traveling frequently to Germany which allowed Annemarie to keep in close contact with her family, including her beloved cousin, Ilse Scherer.

An avid tennis player, Annemarie participated in numerous leagues and found great pleasure in the game. She was a talented knitter, dedicated runner, enjoyed reading in multiple languages, listening to classical music (especially when played by her daughters), baking, hiking, and gardening.

She is predeceased by her brother Claus Ruhkopf, and her second husband Noel Perrin and survived by her daughters Manon Price of Lebanon, NH, Kirsten Nachmanoff of Arlington, VA; their spouses Brendan and Michael; grandchildren Seamus, Amalia, Clara, Anna and Charlotte; and her longtime partner, Robert Moran.

Annemarie was a loving mother and devoted grandmother, who treasured the time she spent with her family, especially at the beach and on the tennis courts. She will be deeply missed.

A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to NHPR (New Hampshire Public Radio)
