HANOVER — Participants in the annual CHaD Hero race raised a record-breaking $1 million for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, or CHaD, and Dartmouth Health Children’s.

More than 3,600 competitors, volunteers and sponsors took part in the race in downtown Hanover on Sunday, according to a news release from Dartmouth Health. The event included a one-mile fun run, a 5K walk and run, and a half-marathon.

Last year, the fundraiser brought in $825,000. Since 2006, the race has raised a total of $11.6 million to support families and children receiving care at Dartmouth Health.

The money “helps us bring the best care where it’s needed most and supports our commitment to treat every child, regardless of their ability to pay,” Dr. Keith J. Loud, physician-in-chief of Dartmouth Health Children’s, said in the release.
