Police from multiple agencies searched for the two on Monday after they were seen in southeastern Vermont, according to a news release from Vermont State Police.

Authorities had been looking for French and Cabey since Sept. 20. Police allege the gunfire took place that evening at around 5 p.m. on U.S. Route 302 between Powder Spring Road to P&H Truck Stop in the Vermont towns of Groton, Ryegate and Newbury, police have said.

The shooting was โ€œnot a random act of violence and involved people who knew each other,โ€ an earlier news release said.

The Monday release said additional updates will be “forthcoming.”
