Claremont — New Hampshire authorities today said a 29-year-old Claremont man died by suicide last week from a fire set at his Elm Street home.

An autopsy conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office found that Timothy Putney died from smoke inhalation, and the manner of death was classified a suicide, according to a news release today from the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The news release said the fire on Thursday, April 27, started in the basement of the two-unit home and the cause of the fire was incendiary.

Claremont fire officials referred all questions to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, who were unavailable for comment.
