CLAREMONT — Creative people of all sorts — woodworkers, fiber artists, jewelry makers, graphic designers, programmers and others, as well as those who’d like to learn about such endeavors — are invited to volunteer at Claremont MakerSpace.

The nonprofit creative hub, which opened in the former Sawtooth Mill building in 2018, is expanding its offerings by adding new tools, classes, programs and community events.

“Our ‘Make a Silver Ring’ and ‘Intro to Woodturning’ classes have been particularly popular as of late,” said director Joshua Bushueff, in an email. “With classes in so many different fields — from digital marketing and plasma cutting, to 3D printing and jewelry making — the MakerSpace offers something for everyone.”

Volunteers who have experience in any of the center’s primary departments — woodworking, fiber arts, jewelry making, metalworking, computers and electronics — are particularly needed, but makers in all mediums and fields are welcome, Bushueff said.

All that’s required is an enthusiasm for making, the arts, technology and education.

Available tasks include staffing the front desk, helping teach classes and being a “shop lead” — assisting with the management of the various creative departments.

In exchange for their help, volunteers receive free membership, which includes discounts on classes, access to specialized tools like 3D printers and heavy-duty sewing machines and options for personal studio and storage space.
