HYDE PARK, Vt. — The Thetford Academy boys soccer team picked up its first win since the season opener in a 6-0 romp over host Lamoille on Wednesday.
Senior midfielder Jake Gilman opened the scoring on a 26th-minute penalty kick, and seven minutes later, freshman Xander Oshiniyi doubled the Panthers’ lead on an assist from sophomore Uly Junker.
Thetford poured it on in the second half. Senior forward Aidan Keane scored twice, Gilman added his second of the game and Emmett Terry netted his first goal of the year. Assists belonged to Gilman, Henry Trage, Wyatt Polletta and Finn Linehan. Matt Vivian had the shutout in goal.
The Panthers (2-2-2) are at Montpelier on Friday.
WOODSTOCK — A pair of second-half goals from Rutland’s Ben Cerreta sunk the Wasps (2-3) on Wednesday. Sophomore goalkeeper Parker Pierce made two saves for the hosts in defeat.
“It was a close game throughout with plenty of shots from both teams,” Woodstock coach Rob Stainton said. “The extra quality in finishing made the difference.”
The Wasps are back in action Saturday at Mount Anthony.
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — The Colonels walloped the Cardinals in an interstate clash. Stevens dropped to 1-8 and will host Hopkinton on Saturday night.
NEWPORT — Stella Lavertue scored twice and six other Cardinals also tallied to boost the visitors to 9-1. Newport, which received its goal from Torry Williams, dropped its seventh consecutive game and fell to 3-7.
Goalkeeper Skylar Nelson was a standout for the Tigers, who host Fall Mountain (4-5) on Friday. Stevens hosts Monadnock (3-4-1) on Saturday.
ORFORD — Freshman Harper Traendly’s ninth goal of the season was not enough to save the Raptors (3-5) from their fourth loss in five games. Stratton Mountain’s first two goals were own goals.
Rivendell hosts White River Valley on Saturday.
MONTPELIER — The Solons stayed undefeated while keeping the Panthers winless at 0-8. Thetford is at North Country on Monday.
HANOVER — The Bears (4-2) suffered their first loss to an in-state opponent Wednesday against the Sabers. Souhegan’s Chloe Luongo scored on a penalty corner with less than two minutes remaining and stayed unbeaten.
Senior goalkeeper Reilly Loughman made four saves for Hanover, and coach Jean Essex praised senior Janina Li in the midfield. Souhegan had 14 corners in the game.
All six of the Bears’ games have been decided by one goal, and five have ended with a 1-0 score.
“I could not be more proud of this team,” Essex said. “The seniors have been holding steady on defense while the offense comes into its own. We played two intense back-to-back games yesterday and today and the girls held their own. We have eight more games in the next 16 days, so assuming that they can all remain healthy, it will be fun to see how they progress.”
Hanover is at John Stark on Friday.
DOVER, N.H. — The Tigers suffered just their second loss of the year, with the Saints avenging an earlier defeat against Newport.
Newport (8-2) is at Franklin on Saturday.
LACONIA, N.H. — The Raiders took second in Wednesday’s four-team tournament, finishing one point behind the Sabers and ahead of ConVal and host Laconia.
Senior Roy Shapard tied for the best individual score with a 39, earning 24 points. Senior Alex Blish was just two strokes behind him, and twin seniors Dawson and Sam Bates were each one stroke behind Blish. Sophomore Ben Britton, junior Jack Clary and senior Cesar Salcedo also competed for Lebanon.
WOODSTOCK — The Hurricanes finished four strokes ahead of the Wasps at Wednesday’s Woodstock Invitational.
Junior Jaden Porier led Hartford with a 39, followed by sophomore Matthew Tsouknakis with a 43. Senior Joseph Barwood (45), freshman Thomas Thorburn (48) and junior Zach Johnson (49) also factored into the Hurricanes’ scoring.
Woodstock senior Ethan Dean was tied for the best individual score with a 38. Seniors Chris Bradley (44), Austin Bloch (48) and Will Coates (49) were the Wasps’ next-highest scorers.
