The former Kmart Plaza, officially at last, has a new identity: Target plaza.
At least that is likely what it will be called now that the old Kmart marquee has been taken down and in its place last week was erected a large sign with Target’s trademark red and white bull’s-eye logo at the entrance of the shopping plaza on Route 12A in West Lebanon.
Target still has not announced an opening date for the new “small format” store — officially the company is still saying “later this fall” — and Target’s company website currently lists six positions it is trying to fill, including two cashiers, a “visual merchandiser,” a human resource manager and a “security specialist.”
Also, the West Lebanon Target store will include a CVS pharmacy, both Target and CVS confirmed to the Valley News. Target has long had pharmacies inside its stores, but they have been branded and managed by CVS since the health supplies giant purchased Target’s in-store pharmacy business for $1.9 billion in 2016.
Although the CVS outlet in Upper Valley Plaza on Route 12A has had such severe staffing problems that it has been forced to close on some weekends, a CVS spokesman said the new CVS at Target will not be supplanting the old one at the plaza across Interstate 89.
“Our current location on North Plainfield Road will remain open and there will be no change to customers’ current prescriptions,” CVS spokesman Matt Blanchette said in an email.
But it’s not the first time Target plaza has had a pharmacy inside the plaza’s namesake store.
The former Kmart store in West Lebanon had an in-store pharmacy, which closed abruptly in 2017 following a performance review by Kmart owner Sears Holdings Corp. The Kmart store closed in 2020.
