HARTFORD — State Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a motorist from Burlington as he stood in the breakdown lane of Interstate 89 Monday afternoon.

Matthew Burger, 25, was standing in the breakdown lane on the median side of the southbound interstate, and his car was in the right-hand breakdown lane when the incident occurred near mile marker 8.8 in Hartford around 2:15 p.m., State Police said in a news release.

Burger suffered “multiple bruises and scrapes” and was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and was in stable condition, the news release said.

Police said he was struck by the driver’s side door of a passing vehicle, and that the vehicle left its driver’s side mirror at the scene.
