CLAREMONT — The city of Claremont is requiring people to wear face coverings when entering all city buildings.

The mandate comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Sullivan County and the Upper Valley broadly. It went into effect on Thursday and includes City Hall, the Claremont Savings Bank Community Center and other city-owned buildings.

Meanwhile in Plainfield, town clerk Michelle Marsh is asking residents to use the town’s drop box or postal mail for motor vehicle renewals and property tax payments.

“Due to the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in Sullivan County, we at the town office would like to cut down on the daily traffic coming through our doors,” Marsh wrote in a news release.

People who need new vehicle registration, landfill tickets, a notary or other records can still come in. Currently, only one visitor is allowed in the office at a time. Others are asked to wait in the foyer or their vehicles. Marsh also asks people to consider calling the office at 603-469-3201 before dropping by so she can prepare ahead of time and cut down on the time needed in the office.
