Salem, N.H. — Rev. James Arthur Green, 92, died Wednesday evening, June 22, 2016, at the Greystone Farm Assisted Living Facility in Salem. He was born June 17, 1924, in Lawrence, Mass. the only child of Thomas and Ann Elizabeth Elsie (Dawson) Green.

James graduated from Punchard High School in Andover, Mass. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on a submarine in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he furthered his education at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. James went on to study at Boston University and received his Bachelors in Sacred Theology. He was ordained by the United Methodist Church in 1955 and served several parishes in New York and Vermont including churches in White River Jct., North Hartland, Fairlee and North Thetford. For many years Rev. Green served as a Chaplin at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct., Vt.

Following his retirement he enjoyed traveling across North America in his motor home. James then settled in Lady Lake, Fla., where he was very active in his church and enjoyed playing softball well up into his eighties. Jim was a loving and generous father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he touched.

He was predeceased by his wife, Cynthia (Laskey) Green and his wife, Kathleen (Littlefield) Green.

Rev. Green is survived by three sons, Robert Green and his wife, Viola of Texas, William Green and his wife, Marion, of Ocala, Fla., Mark Green of Beverly Hills, Fla.; three daughters, Ruth Leary and her husband, John of Vernon, Conn., Paula Green and her life companion, Michelle Lemoine of Pelham, N.H., Sarah Knudson and her husband, Chris of North Haverhill, N.H.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and his aunt, Evelyn Dawson Anton of Atkinson, N.H.

Calling hours will be held Monday, June 27, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 2 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a burial service with full military honors in the Hartford Cemetery in White River Jct., Vt.
