Woodstock — The Upper Valley Curling Club will welcome anyone interested in learning how to play the sport to a series of summer clinics beginning on Sunday evening at Union Arena.

Clinics this weekend and on July 10 and 17 will start at 6 p.m. and cost $20 per person. The club will provide all equipment required for newcomers. Those new to the game will have veteran club members on hand to learn the skills to play.

The Upper Valley Curling Club is comprised of men and women from around the region with various levels of curling ability. No summer league is planned, so players will be assigned to groups as they arrive for each clinic.

The curling season wraps up on July 24. Space is limited, and participants are encouraged to register in advance as last year’s summer clinics filled up quickly.

Union Arena is located west of downtown Woodstock on U.S. Route 4, on the campus of Woodstock Union High School. Visit www.uppervalleycurling.org for more information on the club and its programs.

In the Park CCBA Opening Playground

Lebanon — The Carter Community Building Association will hold a ribbon cutting for its refurbished outdoor playground on Saturday, dedicating the day to a variety of exercise- and family-themed activities.

The big event, the dedication of the playground, happens at 10 a.m. The playground is located in Irene Decato Memorial Park beside the CCBA’s Witherell Center. Originally constructed in 1993, the playground had undergone considerable wear and tear, and replacement parts were no longer available. Fundraising through last year’s A Tasteful Evening food and music event along with foundation grants helped cover the expenses for the new play space.

A variety of other activities will also take place on Saturday. The day begins with an indoor cycling class at 8 a.m. (pre-registration required) and will be followed by an outdoor yoga class at 9:30 a.m., races and a dunk tank at 10:15 a.m., an outdoor TRX demo at 10:30 a.m., a family obstacle course at 11 a.m. and five hours of open swim time beginning at noon.

The event will go on regardless of the weather. Contact the CCBA at 603-448-6477 to learn more.
