Voters in New London and Newbury will fill two New Hampshire House seats on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Democratic incumbents Karen Ebel and Greg Sargent face Republican Dorothy Hitchmoth. All three live in New London.
The Valley News asked the candidates in a survey about their experience, why they are running and what they see as the biggest issue facing the state. Sargent’s answers, edited lightly for style, appear below.
Sargent names affordability as the biggest issue and focuses on state school funding, housing, childcare and energy costs. Ebel and Hitchmoth did not return the questionnaire.
GREG SARGENT

Democrat · NH House Merrimack 7
47, Democrat, New London
Political experience: State representative, 2024-present (one term).
Professional experience: Business leader of a New Hampshire company with 45 employees and an attorney.
Community service: Active in numerous local events; led an LGBTQ hockey nonprofit; served on a New Hampshire school board.
Why are you running? I’m running because government is us. Together, we can strengthen our schools, lower costs and build on what we love about Newbury and New London.
Biggest issue: Affordability is the biggest issue. I would increase state school funding, end vouchers, expand housing and childcare, lower energy costs, raise taxes on large corporations, legalize and tax marijuana, and pause data center development until environmental and ratepayer protections are in place.
