Voters in Vermont House District Windsor-6 in Hartford will elect two state legislators on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Jimmy Coleman and Alanna Ojibway, both from Hartford, are running unopposed.

The Valley News sent a survey to both candidates about their experience, why they are running and what they see as the biggest issue facing the state. Ojibway did not respond. Coleman’s answers, edited lightly for style, appear below.

Coleman, a first-time candidate who works in regional economic development, says the cost of living is pushing young families out of Vermont. He calls for free universal primary and preventive care, more workforce development, and taxes on second homes.

28, Progressive/Democrat, Hartford

Political experience: I have not previously held public office.

Professional experience: I am a program manager at a regional economic development nonprofit based in White River Junction.

Community service: Resilient Hartford board member; volunteer with Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity and Willing Hands.

Why are you running? I’m running because I care deeply about this community and believe that we need more young leaders in Montpelier who will fight for the working class and the future of young families in our state.

Biggest issue: I believe the biggest issue we’re facing is the incredibly high cost of living, which is forcing Vermonters, especially young families, to leave the state. We can address this by creating free universal primary and preventive care, expanding workforce development programs and taxing second homes.
