Grafton County deserves professional leadership

As voters prepare to cast their ballots for Grafton County Register of Deeds, the choice between challenger Brie Choate and incumbent Kelley Monahan could not be clearer.

The Registry of Deeds performs an essential public service, carefully safeguarding historical property records dating back to 1773. However, doing this work effectively requires collaborative leadership. Extensive reporting by the Valley News and Business NH Magazine outlines a troubling history of administrative friction under the incumbent.

Monahan’s tenure has been continuously marked by public acrimony with county commissioners and personnel, culminating in a workplace conflict so severe it resulted in a fellow department head seeking a judicial restraining order. While the courts intervened on the legal petition, the disruption to our county government complex remains undeniable.

Grafton County residents deserve an office run with dignity, professionalism, and mutual respect. Brie Choate offers exactly that. With her small-business background and an ongoing master’s degree in public administration from the University of New Hampshire, Choate has the organizational management skills to lead effectively. Crucially, she is committed to nonpartisan service and a leadership style that listens to and supports the hardworking staff who make the office run.

It is time to move past years of workplace dysfunction and choose stability. Please join me in voting for Brie Choate for Register of Deeds.
