CANAAN — A White River Junction man recently indicted on four domestic violence charges against a child in New Hampshire is out on personal recognizance following a recent bail order hearing.
In February, Canaan Police investigated Trevor Edson, 39, for sexual assault of a minor following a report from a family member of the victim. Police believe the crime occurred in Canaan, according to Chief Ryan Porter.
A Grafton County Grand Jury returned Aug. 21 indictments on two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault of a victim less than 13 years of age; and two counts of felonious sexual assault of a victim less than 13 years of age, as shown in a list of superior court indictments sent out by the deputy clerk.
Court records indicate the child is a 10-year-old male. Details of the alleged abuse are not available through the court system.
Edson had an arraignment and bail order hearing scheduled for Sept. 14 at Grafton Superior Court in Haverhill. When he didn’t show, Canaan Police put out a warrant for Edson’s arrest, said Porter, and he turned himself in on Sept. 17.
Edson, who pleaded not guilty to all charges, had a new court date on Sept. 18. He was held at the Grafton County House of Corrections but has since been released.
The aggravated felonious sexual assault charges, which typically have a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, per RSA 632-A:2, are also subject to a mandatory special sentence of lifetime supervision by the Department of Corrections, as noted in the case summary.
The other two sexual assault charges, considered Class B felonies, carry a sentence of up to seven years in prison, per RSA 632-A:3.
A proposed criminal bail protective order filed Sept. 4 by the Grafton County Attorney’s Office called for release of Edson on personal recognizance, with the stipulation he may not have contact with the victim or his family members or be within 300 feet of their residence. He also may not have any unsupervised contact with minors, the order stated.
In court on Sept. 18, Judge Lawrence MacLeod approved the criminal bail protective order. Edson’s next appearance, noted in his case summary, is a dispositional conference scheduled for Nov. 11.
