For the first time since before COVID in 2020, the Mascoma girls cross country team won a meet, besting Fall Mountain and Winnisquam at the Corbin Covered Bridge 5K Invitational on Tuesday in Newport.
Mascoma freshman Paige Reney won the race in a time of 22:08. Eighth grader Brooklyn Rice was 11th, and senior Izzy Currier finished 12th. Also for the Royals, freshman Maddy Song was 13th, and Grace King was 14th.
The Mascoma boys were third, and Newport was fourth of five teams. Mascoma senior Carl Russell took second with freshman Ransom Donigian (4th) and senior Karson Rogers (5th). Newport’s top finisher was senior John Wilkinson, who came in 12th. Alex Coiutt was 19th for the Tigers.
