History is supposed to be uncomfortable
Teaching the subject of the Holocaust and the Nazi era is mandatory in German schools. This, despite the fact it might make German schoolchildren uncomfortable about their country’s past. It is not considered “woke” for these students to learn about a painful part of history, because it helps to understand why it cannot be allowed to happen again.
When you compare Germany’s response to what we have seen from the current U.S. administration towards our own country’s history, it makes it all the more indefensible.
