David Murgatroy

Sunappe, NH – David A. Murgatroy passed from his earthly home to meet the Lord on June 26, 2026. He was surrounded by his wife of 55 years and loving family.

David was born in Newport, NH on December 7, 1948 to Ida (Holmes) Murgatroy and William Murgatroy Sr. and grew up on Whitcher Rd. with his older brother Bill and two younger sisters, Brenda and Bonnie. David graduated from Newport High School in 1967, where he enjoyed his automotive and shop classes, along with playing football. Throughout high school he worked at Pricilla’s Sweet shop and loved working for the Saggiotis Family.

He married his high school sweetheart Pamela Bond in 1971 and moved to Mountain View Lake in Sunapee, NH where they fostered a loving home for their two children and later four grandchildren.

David was a loyal employee of Sturm Ruger for 47 years. There he performed a variety of duties as a skilled craftsman of firearms. He had the honor of shooting trap professionally for Sturm Ruger where he was a world class marksman in all disciplines, including singles, doubles, handicap and accumulated many accolades. In 1999 he and his brother Bill traveled to Vandalia, OH to compete in the 100th Grand American World Trap Shooting Championships.

Throughout his life, David put his God given talent of sharp shooting to good use as he enjoyed hunting deer and turkeys, hunting with his bird dogs, especially his latest German shorthair, Molly. October was a sacred month for David spending many days-a-field hunting at Old Hill Village. He passed along his skills to his son Michael and they shared a multitude of hunting experiences. He later taught his grandson Sam the quiet art of hunting deer in the woods of NH. He looked forward to hunting with his grandchildren Olivia and Wyatt when they visited and later moved to NH. He enjoyed sharing the art of tying flies and using them on the shore of Mountain View Lake with his grandson Finn. He loved playing the guitar, especially Johnny Cash, with his granddaughter Olivia, giving her many helpful tips. This last Winter he enjoyed cheering on his grandson Wyatt ski racing at Mount Sunapee. He rarely missed a ball game that his grandchildren played in and experienced them winning a high school championship with Finn on the bump and Sam at short. He loved talking about firearms with his bonus grandson Kyle. He adored watching his daughter Renee play volleyball in her younger years and was very proud when she became a local physical education teacher. He never said no to the sweet treats his daughter in law Jess would drop off for him. His last pheasant hunt was thoughtfully arranged by his son in law Cory at New England Upland, he enjoyed making those memories with his whole family.

David and his wife Pam cherished every moment with family and friends at Mountain View lake, around the campfire, celebrating many holidays, 4th of July parties, and Sunday dinners. He relaxed by tending his garden, watching wildlife on and around the lake, and picking endless amounts of berries.

David was preceded in death by his parents Ida and Bill Murgatroy, his brother Bill Murgatroy Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Pam; sister Brenda Minot (Will); sister Bonnie Murgatroy; children Renee Flint (Cory) and Michael Murgatroy (Jess); and grandchildren Olivia and Wyatt Murgatroy and Samuel and Finnegan Flint; a nephew and great nephew and niece.
