WEST LEBANON โ Work on the second phase of the Renew Campion renovation project at James W. Campion III Rink in West Lebanon continued earlier this week with what was described as an โimportant milestoneโ in the endeavor.
On Wednesday, crews poured 250 yards of concrete over more than 14 miles of new refrigeration piping that will keep the rink’s ice surface frozen.ย
The concrete replaces what previously was a sand floor and, according to a news release from rink ownership and management, โwill provide a supportive, sustainable, and reliable foundation for the ice.โ
The second phase of renovations, which has a $2.5 million budget, began in March and is set to include new dasher boards and glass and an improved spectator area.

Hanover Improvement Society Executive Director Jennifer Rickards told the Valley News in March that the latest phase of improvement efforts at the rink was being funded through donations and a bank loan.
The aforementioned news release notes that donations are still being requested to complete the project.
โWe are excited to create a more sustainable, higher-quality setting for skaters, spectators, and the community as a whole,โ the news release adds.
This work follows the completion of phase one in 2023, which included upgrades to locker rooms and the lobby, among other aspects, and was funded through a $5 million fundraising campaign.
Phase two work is scheduled to be completed in September so that the rink will be open at the start of next season.
