NEW LONDON โ€” New London’s five-member Board of Firewards has chosen the town’s safety officer and a member of the Fire Department to serve as acting fire chief.

Brandon Adams, who started April 1, succeeds retired Chief Jay Lyon, according to an announcement from the town.

Lyon started at the New London Fire Department in 1991 and spent 18 years as chief before his retirement this month, according to the town’s Annual Report.

Adams is originally from Andover, N.H., and moved to New London in 2024.

Before becoming chief, Adams was a general member of the New London department. He became New London’s safety officer in September 2025.

His past experience includes almost a decade as a volunteer firefighter in Andover and the past several years working as a firefighter and Advanced EMT in Hanover and Franklin, N.H.
