HANOVER โ€” Rahm Emanuel, a former Chicago mayor and U.S. ambassador to Japan, is slated to speak at Dartmouth College on Tuesday.

The conversation will be moderated by Charles Wheelan, the faculty director of the Center for Business, Government and Society at the college’s Tuck School of Business.

A member of the Democratic Party, Emanuel served as the White House chief of staff from 2009 to 2010 during the Obama administration. He became mayor of Chicago a year later, a position he held until 2019.

In 2022, he began a three-year stint as the U.S. ambassador to Japan.

The Tuesday talk is part of the Law and Democracy: The United States at 250 speaker series, which the college launched this fall with the goal of creating opportunities for students and community members to interrogate questions related to democracy and governance, Dartmouth’s website says.

Past speakers include New York Times opinion editor Kathleen Kingsbury and former Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolfe.

The upcoming event is set for 5 to 6 p.m. at Filene Auditorium inside Moore Hall at 3 Maynard St. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
