Andrew Silovich, professional engineer and contract administrator with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, points to construction work being done on I-89 to build a new bridge over the Connecticut River in West Lebanon, N.H., on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023. The southbound Exit 20 ramp at the end of the bridge will be closed from the evening of Sunday, Sept. 17, through the evening of Thursday, Sept. 21, to complete drainage improvements and road reconstruction work. “It’ll be really great when we’re done,” Silovich said of the planned six-lane bridge, noting that closures and detours will be necessary to complete the project. WEST LEBANON — Motorists can expect delays on northbound Interstate 89 headed into Vermont beginning next Wednesday as traffic on the bridge over the Connecticut River will be reduced to one lane as crews work to replace a concrete bridge deck.

One of the two northbound lanes of Interstate 89 near Exit 20 in West Lebanon is scheduled to be closed Wednesday, May 27, according to a news release from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

It is expected to reopen on Monday, June 1, at which point the other lane will close to allow for the same deck replacement.

Officials expect the work to take place from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

“Road users should remain alert while traveling through the construction zone and obey all posted signs,” according to NHDOT.

The $43 million, multi-year project “is anticipated to be complete in the fall of 2026.”
