QUECHEE โ€” A section of Interstate 89 Southbound near Exit 1 to Quechee was down to one lane early Friday after a rockslide blocked part of the road.

Vermont State Police closed one lane of the road just before 2 a.m. Friday due to the debris blocking part of the right lane and shoulder, according to a VT Alert. The incident was cleared around 3 a.m., according to a second alert, but had been reduced to one lane again during the morning commute.

A geologist from the Vermont Agency of Transportation was on site Friday morning and a crew cleaned the debris out of the ditch along the road, VTrans District Transportation Administrator Shauna Clifford said in a Friday email.

VTrans will continue to monitor the area after the incident, but Clifford said that the “failure area has mostly cleaned itself out.” Though there is a “much smaller overhang” at the top of the ledge it is “not a cause for concern,” Clifford said. If that section of ledge falls it is expected to land in the ditch.
