Fairlee, VT – Timothy Ricks Butler (Tim) passed away on May 8, 2026, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on May 2, 1969, to Elizabeth and Leroy Butler, Tim grew up in Northfield, Vermont and graduated from Norwich University. He married Lynne Lee (Butler) in 2000 and welcomed two daughters Thessalie and Ryleigh Butler. They have lived together in Fairlee for 24 years. He worked the last 18 years at New England Research, where he was a beloved coworker. Tim was an outdoorsman, a Rivendell sports fan, a lover of live music, and a “freakin’ genius”.
Tim will be remembered as a bright presence, a good man, and a loving father, husband, friend, and sibling. The family would also like to thank everyone who provided support throughout this time and the staff of DHMC for the compassionate care they provided. In addition to his wife and daughters, Tim is survived by his siblings Justine Myers (Jim) and brother Christopher (Ivana), his Aunt Justine Shields, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Leroy and Elizabeth, his cousin Marcie Shields, and his grandparents.
A service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Thetford at 11:00 on Saturday May 16 with a reception from 12:30-3:30 at the Lake Morey Resort. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Vermont Public Radio or the Upper Valley Trails Association.
