Edwin G. Lawrence

Sarasota, FL – Edwin (Ed) G. Lawrence passed away peacefully at the age of 93, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born on August 15th, 1932, in Amityville, NY. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 where he served as an Aviation machinist, Mate, 3rd Class during the Korean War from 1951-1954.

He joined the Massapequa fire department in 1950 serving on their drill team and continued to be a member until he moved his family to New Hampshire in 1966.

When he settled in New Hampshire, Ed was one of the founding members of the Cornish Rescue Squad and a volunteer fireman with the Cornish Fire Department until he moved back to Long Island in 1985.

Upon returning to Long Island, Ed served as a volunteer fireman in the Amityville Fire Department (Engine 4). After leaving New York to retire in Florida, Ed continued to stay involved in department news. He often sent them safety messages, and he always spoke highly of all his department brothers.

Even in his 90’s, Ed was always thinking of ideas and inventions to make the world a safer place.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Helen (Donnolly) Lawrence, his sister Caroline Smith, brother-in-law Ed Smith, and son-in-law, Larry Dingee. He is survived by his five children Jim (Tammy), Ed (Karlene), Dale, Diana (Robert) and Patty (Michael). Ed has ten grandchildren; Shane, Mary, Ashley, Lisa, Kelsey, Jessica, Kyle, Marisa, Stephen and Santino and ten great-grandchildren; Emma, Blake, Maisie, Jacob, Logan, Brooke, Julius, Liam, Sofia, and Isabel.
