Out of Body, Full of Heart
The new Netflix documentary Noah Kahan: Out of Body seamlessly accomplishes three things with pitch perfect grace.
First, it’s a breathtaking love letter to the Upper Valley, giving folks from ‘away’ a glimpse at the life we are so lucky, and often so confounded, to have here.
Second, it tackles mental health, anxiety, body dysmorphia, traumatic brain injury, divorce, self-doubt and more with a gentle truth that lands softly but steadily.
Third, it shows how navigating the messiness of life and family does not have to come at the expense of love. For those of us raising kids, especially sons, here in the Upper Valley, it calls us to love our place while also holding its harsh realities close.
I’m sure the filmmakers didn’t set out to make this film a counterpoint to the toxic and alarming Netflix documentary Inside the Manosphere but it singlehandedly wins the case for vulnerability, compassion, empathy, community, and love all set against the backdrop of our rolling hills and our Price Chopper parking lots; beauty to be found in both the highs and the lows.
All our love and thanks to Noah for this gift, from the bottom of our mean New England hearts.
