Multiplier effect apparently lost on Trump

As our president is about to ask Congress to increase the Pentagon’s budget to $1.5 Trillion, I’d like to remind our US Congressional delegations from NH and VT of the well-known impact of the ‘multiplier effect’ where some federal dollars keep generating more income over and over again.

Quite simply, a federal dollar spent on roads or trains allows workers to get to their job while a dollar spent on armaments ends up being stored on a base or exploded on the battlefield. A federal dollar spent on educating our children means they can find good-paying jobs while a dollar spent on tanks gets used up in a faraway war.

Our military is already amply funded! Please ask our Congressional representatives to put our tax dollars to work in the most productive way by funding programs that make an important difference in working families’ lives and that have a multiplier effect as they are spent. Supporting childcare allows parents to work. Supporting local agricultural programs allows better food to be eaten to make us healthier.
